Sectional garage doors

Sectional garage doors lift vertically and travel up under the ceiling — they never swing outwards and never take up the space in front of the garage. A remote-controlled opener comes with them.

Why sectional rather than side-hinged

Classic hinged doors open outwards and need clear space in front of the garage — space usually taken by a parked car or by snow that fell overnight. A sectional door is made of horizontal panels linked by hinges that ride up on tracks and park under the ceiling.

The area in front stays clear, and inside you lose nothing but the headroom the tracks take up. We measure that on site — a certain amount of clearance above the opening is required.

The opener

The motor mounts on the ceiling and drives the door along a rail. It comes with two remote controls, and an external push button or a keypad can be added.

Anti-crush protection matters: the motor monitors resistance and, if it meets an obstruction, stops and reverses. That is the difference between a door that is safe around children and one that is not.

If the power fails, the door opens by hand — a cord releases the motor from the carriage. So a garage is never locked shut by an electrical fault.

Panels and appearance

Panels are double-skinned with insulation in between, which holds the temperature in the garage and cuts running noise. Several patterns are available — plain, cassetted, ribbed — and several colours, including wood finishes.

Windows can be set into a panel, useful when the garage has no other source of daylight. There is also a version with a built-in wicket door, so the whole leaf does not have to be raised just to walk in.

What we measure on siteBesides the width and height of the opening, we measure the headroom above it and the side room for the tracks. If there is not enough headroom there is a low-headroom version — but that has to be known before ordering, not at installation.

Frequently asked questions

How much space above the door is needed?

Standard installation needs a certain clearance between the top of the opening and the ceiling. Where that is not available, a low-headroom version with a different track and spring arrangement is used. We establish the exact figure at the measuring visit.

Can the garage door be opened without electricity?

Yes. Pulling a release cord frees the motor and the door lifts by hand. The cord is always reachable from inside, and garages with no other entrance also get an external key release.

Can an opener be added later?

It can, if the door is sectional and correctly balanced. Fitting it at the same time is simpler and cheaper, because the motor and tracks are then set up together.
