Insect screens for windows and doors
Insect screens built from aluminium components with non-flammable fibreglass mesh, made to the size of the opening. They fit onto existing joinery — nothing has to be replaced.
Three types — which one you need
The choice depends on how the opening is used, not on price:
- Fixed frame — the simplest and cheapest. It hooks onto the outside of the window and lifts off without tools, usually for the winter. For windows nobody walks through.
- Hinged door — a screen on hinges with a magnetic catch, for terraces and balcony doors used every day.
- Roller screen — the mesh retracts into a cassette when not needed. The most expensive, but the only one that disappears from view and never has to be taken down.
Why fibreglass rather than ordinary mesh
Fibreglass mesh is non-flammable and does not stretch. Old nylon mesh sags after a few seasons and pulls out of its groove, while metal mesh oxidises and leaves marks on the profile.
The mesh lets air and light through while keeping mosquitoes and flies out. There is a finer version for small insects, and a reinforced mesh a cat cannot push through with its claws — if you have a cat that likes windows, that is worth mentioning at the measuring visit.
Fitted without drilling the profile
A fixed screen hangs on clips that sit in the groove or are bonded on, so the PVC profile is never drilled. That matters on new joinery — drilling through the line the gasket runs along can compromise the seal.
A roller screen has its own cassette mounted above the opening and does need fixing, but it sits outside the sealing zone.

Frequently asked questions
Can screens be fitted to old windows?
They can. A screen is made to the size of the existing opening and does not depend on whether the joinery is new or old, PVC, aluminium or timber. Measuring is done on site, because old openings are rarely square.
How long does fibreglass mesh last?
With normal use and a wash once a year, the mesh lasts many seasons. If it gets damaged, only the mesh is replaced — the frame stays, so the repair is cheap.
Does a roller screen get in the way of a roller shutter?
Not if they are planned together. When both are done at once, the shutter cassette and the screen cassette are coordinated at the measuring stage. If the shutter is already there, we check how much room is left above the opening.
