Railings, balustrades and gates
Aluminium railings for terraces and balconies, balustrades for staircases and gates for yards. Aluminium does not rust and does not need repainting every season — powder coating holds its colour for years.
Why aluminium instead of steel
A steel railing looks good for the first two years. After that the cycle starts: rust on the welds, grinding, primer, topcoat — every season or every other one, especially on the side facing the rain.
Aluminium does not rust. The powder coating is baked onto the profile and does not peel, so maintenance comes down to washing. The initial price is higher than steel, but there is no repainting cost and no season in which the railing looks bad.

Hinged or sliding gate
A hinged gate is cheaper and simpler, but it needs room for the leaves to swing into — usually inside the yard. If the yard is narrow or on a slope, the leaves catch.
A sliding gate runs sideways along the fence and needs no room in front or behind. It costs more and needs a level track for the wheels, or a cantilever design, but it is the only answer when there is no room to swing a leaf.
Either can have a remote-controlled opener, with the same anti-crush principle as a garage door.
Infill
The infill decides how much can be seen through the railing and how much wind passes. Angled louvres give privacy from below while letting air through. Solid panels block the view completely but take more wind load, so they need a stronger frame. Glass is used on terraces with a view, where the railing must not hide the very thing the terrace was built for.

Frequently asked questions
Does an aluminium railing flex under pressure?
Not if the structure is sized for the job. The profile for a balcony railing is heavier and different from the profile for a decorative yard fence. Load capacity is calculated from the height and the infill type, which is settled at the measuring visit.
Can an opener be added to an existing gate?
On hinged gates usually yes, if the hinges are sound and the leaf moves easily by hand. On sliding gates it depends on whether there is a track and how the gate is guided. A site visit settles that immediately.
How long does the coating last on a coated railing?
Powder coating is baked onto the profile, so it does not peel like paint. Washed once or twice a year, the colour holds for years. The aluminium underneath does not rust even where the layer gets scratched.
